Baby sleep how many hours?

Parents commonly ask how much sleep their baby needs.
The answer is not straight forward, because every baby’s sleep needs are different.
Baby sleep varies from as little as 10 hours to 20 hours out of 24 for newborn.
From two to three month, night time sleep averages about nine hours, in addition to about five hours of naps throughout the day.
By 12 month, your baby’s night time sleep will be around 11 hours, with 2 hours of daytime naps.
Here are some tips to help your baby sleep
From around three months, you can help teach your baby to adopt healthy sleep patterns.
• Teach your baby to fall asleep by himself
Many experts believe that, after the newborn phase, putting your baby to bed by rocking him or feeding him prevents him from developing self soothing behaviors.
Instead, they recommend putting your baby to bed when he’s still awake, well fed, sleepy, and able to fall asleep without help from you.
• Establish a bedtime sleep routine
Babies, toddlers, and children are comforted by familiarity.
Regular bedtime habits will help your baby understand that soon it will be time to go to sleep.
Where should your baby sleep?
•
A bassinet
is the ideal size for your newborn baby, and can be carried from room to room if necessary.
• A cradle can be rocked, your newborn may find it very soothing when she is inside the cradle.
Make sure you lock it to stationary position while your baby is sleeping.
•
A crib
is usually one of the popular choice parents prefer to choose from the start.
A baby can usually sleep in a crib from the start until she’s at least 18 months old and possibly up to three years.
